Luna y Sol Sanctuary Vision

To see a world where women from all walks of life have agency over mind, body, spirit and soul.

Luna y Sol Sanctuary is a dream in the making
— Dr. Luna

Being well is a birth rite. Yet many of us, are suffering from ailments that could be addressed by making changes to our way of life, lifestyle. Within a socio-economic cultural and historical-political perspective, people of color in particular, still don’t have access to proper health care, suitable living spaces, access to clean water or food that is free of genetically modified organisms; our suffering is impacted by a high stress lifestyle and worry over having sufficient basic needs. Although we are in the age of technology and a touch of our fingers we have access to massive amounts of information. Still, many of us are suffering with mental health challenges like anxiety and depression, feelings of loneliness and isolation, trauma and historical trauma, addictions, substance abuse, violence and abuse; we are seeing a rise in suicide of our youth and elder communities; physical ailments are on the rise with people suffering from auto-immune disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity. The imbalance and disconnection from Mother Earth is obvious. We are all impacted at some level.

The discrepancies in wellness are clear. The people most impacted by dis-ease are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, women and our elders. This was particularly highlighted during the pandemic and we continue to see women’s rites/rights over our bodies challenged. BIPOC communities are over-represented in prisons and access to culturally sensitive and appropriate care is still a problem in the United States. How do we address wellness from a nature based perspective that is sustainable and regenerative for the land, the water, the people and ALL its inhabitants?

Seeing these challenges, I knew I wanted to make a contribution to the world. I was inspired by Indigenous healers and practitioners, Indigenous ceremonies, Lakota ceremonies, Native American Church, Shipibo plant medicines, shamanic healing and energy modalities that allowed me to discover and connect with my Indigenous roots and heal deep layers of ancestral trauma running through my lineage and expressing in my body, mind and emotions.

Being a first-generation woman living in the United States, coming from a Mexican background, and enduring poverty & abuse during my childhood and adolescence, coping with drugs & alcohol early in my life, I had a bigger calling to healing. That calling to healing lead me to discover and reclaim my Indigenous Mexican heritage (Purépecha, Chichimeca), while completing my education and doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology & opening my heart to Indigenous wisdom healing practices that truly saved my soul. Today, I am here to share the wisdom with others by creating safe & whole healing spaces for women, BIPOC & others who do not fit neatly into one category aligning with earth-based healing practices that respect the water, the earth, the air, fire, and all around.

Luna y Sol Sanctuary was founded as a 501(c3) Nonprofit Organization with tax exempt status in 2020 as a space to offer Indigenous wisdom & holistic healing modalities to underserved and underrepresented communities. We aim to train, educate, and serve in communities of care.

“Indigenous Ways of Knowing (IWOK) promotes ancient wisdom teachings as a foundation for the promotion of wellness”

Indigenous Consciousness

The word Indigenous refers to individuals and groups that ascribe to an earth-based existence that promotes interconnection and interdependence on multiple levels of existence. This infers a state of consciousness that is characterized by one’s innate sense of of self as an extension of Nature (Grayshield, Begay, Luna, 2020) excerpt from our book “Indigenous Ways of Knowing in Counseling: Theory, Research & Practice”

Food is Medicine Course is Open for Enrollment!

Food is Medicine is a living breathing workshop designed to create a conscious community of people who want to gather to address their food habits with intention and respect for healing of the land. We know that the healing of the land and the people, requires us to take a look at our food sources, how our food products are sold, labeled and whether the land and animals we consume are being respected and treated well, fed well with organic non-toxic substances. We started off this program last year as a 10 week pilot program and realized this is life long journey and commitment. We are sharing everything we know about Food is Medicine. The first week of materials are totally free and available online. If you want to continue the journey and meet in group session and individual sessions, please enroll now! Limited spaces are available. Our ask is $59 or more to take our class! We are grateful to have you and be a part of your food is medicine journey.

LAND BACK PROJECTS & CURRENT NEEDS

Make a donation.

Land is needed to continue hosting women retreats. Our retreats are focused on educating on nutritional wellness, how to engage healthy lifestyle practices & time and space on the land to learn about herbs, and spending time in nature observing and experiencing the elements. We are seeking donations to help us access land spaces for healing.

Spaces for Women’s Retreats

For many years we have hosted women’s circles by spending our own money to buy organic foods and to offer our educational program for self-care for free. We like to offer 2 retreats a year in Spring and Fall. Please let us know if you have spaces available we can reserve as a donation. This allows us to keep our retreats at a very minimal cost to support our mission.

Donate

We are in need of donations to acquire a storage container. Total Request $2,000.00 or donate the container.

  • We are seeking funds to secure a storage container for nonprofit equipment and materials that are used for holistic healing. Since I (the Executive Director) have gone mobile following the prayer to find land, and to support and help others create and hold sacred spaces on the land I need space to secure items I had purchased for healing work while I am on the road living minimally and providing services. Some of the equipment I have to secure: (e.g. ozone equipment, sound healing tools like crystal singing bowls, drums, rattles, rife machine frequency equipment, sauna blanket, salve making tools, crystals and stones used for healing and re-selling for personal use, books, office equipment).
